Prof. Eric J. Hazebroek, MD PhD
Prof. Eric Hazebroek, MD PhD, serves as a surgeon specializing in Upper GI and metabolic bariatric surgery at Rijnstate Hospital, Arnhem, the Netherlands and has an appointment as Professor of Nutrition and Obesity Treatment at Wageningen University & Research (WUR).
Prof. Hazebroek completed his medical studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he also obtained his PhD in 2002. He became a licensed general surgeon in 2006 at Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam. Following this, he was enrolled in a fellowship Upper GI Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia. He subsequently held staff positions at University Medical Center Utrecht and St. Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein. Since 2017, he has been affiliated with Rijnstate Hospital and Vitalys, a leading clinic for bariatric metabolic surgery in the Netherlands.
Prof. Hazebroek supervises multiple PhD candidates involved in projects on the nutritional consequences of obesity treatment, and techniques to optimize surgical procedures to improve weight loss outcomes.
The collaboration between our research group and WUR has been involved around the drinkometer device, which has recently been used by Prof. Hazebroek’s group to investigate microstructural changes in ingestive behavior in subjects undergoing Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery.
