Our Study Site

Our main study site is the Männedorf Hospital, an institution with a strong focus on metabolic bariatric surgery. Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Marco Bueter, the department of visceral surgery has established a high caseload in metabolic bariatric procedures, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy (Overview). This specialization ensures not only clinical expertise but also a continuous flow of eligible patients for recruitment.

The lean administrative structure and integration of study visits with standard clinical appointments allow for efficient scheduling, minimized patient burden, and smooth execution of study procedures. This integration is particularly valuable in maintaining high adherence and participant engagement over time.

Participants are also informed about metabolic bariatric surgery and ongoing research through dedicated public science communication channels, including a website designed for lay audiences (Adipositas Zürich) and a podcast (Adipodcast) hosted by Prof. Bueter and Prof. Thalheimer. These platforms feature interdisciplinary discussions with academic and clinical guests and aim to foster understanding at the interface of metabolic bariatric surgery.
